Living Word Missions Puts New Spin on Fundraising
It has been reported, that over the past two years, non-profit organizations such as charities and ministries that depend solely on private donations, have seen a decline of up to two-thirds in contributions.
Living Word Missions also felt the impact of a slow economy with a large drop in their support base. This organization, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a ministry that seeks to be missionaries to missionaries. They provide services to any missionary home on furlough including free housing, medical services, counseling, and training. In addition, they have over 85 missionaries serving in countries around the world. In an effort to make ends meet during a difficult financial season, the management team at LWM came up with an innovative fundraising idea called CellFund.
CellFund is a program designed not only to help Living Word Missions become self-sufficient, but also to help other struggling organizations to raise much needed funds. This tool works as a partnership in fundraising between CellFund and its participants. In addition, as this program begins to reach its potential, the ministry will have an income source to fall back on, as private donations tend to fluctuate from one year to the next.
The CellFund Program allows organizations raise funds without the common overhead and stress of usual fundraising endeavors. It is estimated that within the next three years, there will be over 50 million cell phones in the United States that are no longer being used. CellFund collects these old cell phones and pays the organization for every collected used cell phone that has value. The average person upgrades their cell phone every 14-18 months, so the fundraising potential for organizations using CellFund is tremendous!
CellFund has already raised a significant amount of money towards meeting Living Word Missions’ financial challenges. Hundreds of organizations have also utilized CellFund to achieve their fundraising goals. Cheryl Bauman, director of Crisis Pregnancy Outreach, explains that her organization has already raised thousands of dollars, “with almost no effort.”
